November 21/22:

November 21/22

November was the last trial of the 2009 season.  We decided to have it at San Martin again in the covered arena just in case of bad weather.   The only bad weather was Friday during set up, so we lucked out.  It was quite cool and breezy, especially on Saturday.  It was quite nice for the folks outside in the sun.   Those of us inside were a little chilly.

We had quite a few teams that were new to agility and a few old faces that we had not seen in a while.   It was a fun trial.    Judge Roger Coor set up some really challenging courses that were fun to think about.

Trial committee was:
Chair/Grounds: Jean Danver
Awards: Arnita Bowman
Secretary: Dave Connet
Chief Course Builder: Susan Laursen
Chief Ring Steward: Maralise Howze
Hospitality: Mona Nichols
Chief Scorekeeper: Marcia Hodes
RV Czar: Arnita Bowman
Equipment Transportation/NT Raffle: Donna Highstreet

The  trial had five classes each day.   Being the last trial of the season, the Silver Buckle awards were determined and awarded.  There was some hot competition.  None of the winners were determined until the second day and one group, open, was not determined until the last run of the day.
We had "NQ" raffles on Saturday and Sunday which were big hits, as usual.

Debbie Ogg and her Corgie, Porsche, earned their ATCH on the first regular run of the day on Saturday.  Porsche put on a great show running around to celebrate.   That was not the only celebration.  Nicole Watts and her daughter, Ally, had a retirement party for their Aussie, Pasha,  complete with cake and a poetry contest.   Donna Highstreet was the winner of the poetry contest.

HIT had some very close results going down to the last class of the day before the actual results were known.

 High in Trial Winners were:
Junior- Janelle Farkas  with Taxi (Aussie)
Veteran - Donna Highstreet with Star (Aussie)
Elite - Debbie Ogg with Porsche (Corgie)
Open - Mona Nichols with Sunny (Aussie)
Novice - Peter Sakia with Lucky (Aussie)

Donna Highstreet & Star (Veteran), Janelle Farkas & Taxi (Jr. Handler - not pictured)

Arnita had a great display for the Silver Buckles.  This year the collars were black and small enough so the dogs could actually wear them.  To win the Silver Buckle a dog had to have the most number of Qs (dirty Qs counted as 1/2) in their category over the four trials that PASA sanctioned.   The categories were Elite, Open, Novice, Veteran and Jr. Handler.  Each dog's category was determined by the category of their first regular Q.  So, even, if the dog moved up over the season they still remained in the category of their 1st Q for the Silver Buckle.  The 2009 winners were:

Novice: Neva Perrotta & Ranger  (Australian Cattle Dog)
Open:  Maralise Howze & Jemima (Aussie)
Elite : Jean Danver & Chaps (Aussie) - His 4th win
Veteran: Donna Highstreet & Star (Aussie)
Jr. Handler: Janelle Farkas & Taxi (Aussie)

August 1/2

This event was the 3rd trial of out 2008/2009 season.  We took a chance having it in San Martin in the summer, but it ended up being cooler than the March Turlock trial.   The weather gods certainly were on our side.  The temperature was in the 60s until the fog burned off around noon.  The worst it got was low 80s and then we had a nice breeze and being inside kept the sun off.

Everyone really seemed to be enjoying themselves.  The novice and open groups were really having a good time.  Judge Darryl Warren had a great sense of humor and kept things going at the right pace.

Trial committee was:
Chair/Grounds: Jean Danver
Awards: Arnita Bowman
Secretary: Dave Connet
Chief Course builder: Susan Laursen
Chief Ring Steward: Erika Maurer
Hospitality: Mona Nichols
Chief Scorekeeper: Marcia Hodes
RV Czar: Arnita Bowman
Equipment Transportation: Jenny Hutchinson

Our judge was Darryl Warren, who provided fast, interesting courses.
The  trial had five classes each day.    This was our gamble trial.  four of them were offered.
We had "NQ" raffles on Saturday and Sunday which were big hits, as usual.

The trial was kicked off in great fashion.  On the very first elite gamble of the day on Saturday Trek, an Aussie owned and run by Erika Maurer got that needed Q for his ATCH.    Way to go! Erika and Trek!

HIT had some very close results going down to the last class of the day before the actual results were known.

 High in Trial Winners were:
Junior- Caroline with Java (Aussie)
Veteran-Helen Bauer with Spike (Corgi Mix)
Elite- Jean Danver with Chaps(Aussie)
Open-Janet Jenkins with Maggie (Aussie)
Novice-Gayle Seaton with Reba (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel)

This was the 3rd trial in the Silver Buckle Series. Note that in the Silver Buckle standings some dogs have "0" for the YPS average.  That is because YPS is calculated using regular runs only.  If a dog has no Qs in Regular but does in Jumpers and/or Gamble they will have a Q count but no tie breaker value.  The category of your Silver Buckle category is the level of the dogs 1st regular Q, not the dog's latest regular Q.    Please note that all Veteran dogs whose first Q was a Vet Q are now listed under the Veteran category.   Please report any errors to the web master.

March 28/29

This event was the 3rd time we have teamed up with Delta ASC where Delta held an obedience event and a conformation event and PASA held the agility event.  Again we had great weather getting into the low 80s on Saturday and cooling down about 10 degrees on Sunday.  There was lots of sun all around.
Trial committee was:
Chair/Grounds/ Donna Highstreet
Awards: Jean Danver
Secretary: Dave Connet
Chief Course builder: Susan Laursen
Chief Ring Steward: Liza Buckner/Erika Maurer
Hospitality: Mona Nichols
Chief Scorekeeper: Marcia Hodes
RV Czar: Donna Highstreet

Our judge was Judy Boone, who provided fast, challenging courses.  The trial was overly full, but due to lots of help from members and the entrants, things ran pretty smoothly.

The  trial about 400 runs each day and five classes each day.
We had "NQ" raffles on Saturday and Sunday which were big hits, as usual.

We had no ATCH winners, but we learned that Danielle Dumais and her Aussie, Kiss, had earned her ATCH without knowing it at a previous trial, so we had the privilege of awarding it to them first thing Saturday morning.

We had a real scare on Sunday in Rd 1 of Elite regular, when Jean Danver and Chaps had a collision when Chaps blasted out of  a tunnel.  Jean took a really hard fall, hitting her head and being knocked unconscious.  There was qualified medical help at the trial who managed things until the paramedics arrived.  By then Jean was conscious, and of course concerned that she got an "E"(well, it was good to hear her say that!  That's our typical Jean!!)).  Before the ambulance left, Chaps was brought over to her, and he snuggled up next to her as she petted him, bringing tears to many eyes!  At the hospital, she had a CT scan which showed she had a concussion and a small amount of bleeding.  They were going to keep her overnight for observation, but later decided to let her husband, Andy take her home.  The trial resumed, and Susan Laursen ran Chaps who, being the typical Chaps!  Q'd in all 3 runs she did with him, and ended up earning HIT elite!
We want to thank everyone who helped during this harrowing experience including members of PASA who looked after Chaps, packed up all of Jean's  stuff, and drove her car back to the Bay Area.

 High in Trial Winners were:
Junior- Francesca Perrotta with Maxie(Cattle dog)
Veteran-Donna Highstreet with Star(Aussie)
Elite- Jean Danver/Susan Laursen with Chaps(Aussie)
Open-Neva Perrotta with Ranger(Cattle dog)
Novice-Jack Leon with Piper(Aussie)

This was the 2nd trial in the Silver Buckle Series. Please report any errors to the web master.

February 21/22

This event was the first one held in many years at the VIPAWZ Center in San Martin, CA.  The site is a horse facility that recently changed ownership and wants to also have dog events.   We used a large covered arena, which made the trial possible since the weather was cloudy with rain Saturday night and Sunday.
Trial committee was:
Chair/Grounds/Awards: Jean Danver
Secretary: Maralise Howze
Chief Course builder: Susan Laursen
Chief Ring Steward: Liza Buckner
Hospitality: Mona Nichols
Chief Scorekeeper: Marcia Hodes
RV Czar: Arnita Bowman

Our judge was Ken Perlmutter.  His courses were fun with just the right challenge and  his sense of humor was just what was needed for the first time use of a facility.  There were a few glitches, but nothing that could not be overcome with a smile.   PASA is looking forward to working with VIPAWZ more in the future.

The  trial was completely full and there were six classes each day, so the days were long.
We had "NQ" raffles on Saturday and Sunday which were big hits, as usual.
Congratulations to our two ATCH winners, Sue Rush and her Aussie, Maddie, and Nicole Watts and her Aussie, Jinn.   Both needed gamble Qs.  Maddie got hers on Saturdays 2nd gamble that required finding a teeter in between a jump and a tunnel.   Jinn needed two gambles.  He got the 1st on the same one as Maddie and the 2nd on the last gamble on Sunday.  Jinn was on the dogwalk when the gamble horn sounded and Nicole managed to get him all the way across the ring and through the gamble sequence in time.  Quite an exciting finish.

Judge Ken Perlmutter and Nicole Watts with Jinn      Francesca Perrotta: HIT Jr.Handler

High in Trial awards were given at this trial.  In the Veteran's group Donna Highstreet and her Aussie, Star,  was the run away winner.   The other categories had to wait until the last run was over before the results were known. In Open, Jemima and Dillion(Judy Palif) were very close.  Both had the same number of Qs, but Dillion's 1st two regular Qs were in Novice giving Jemima a two point advantage.   Piper strengthened his lead in Novice in the last round.  Elite ended in a tie between Chaps and Porsche (Debbie Ogg) with Chaps getting the tie breaker.  Both those dogs Qed every elite run in the trial.  Francesca Perrotta won Jr. Handler with her cattle dog, Maxie.

Maralise Howze & Jemima (Open), Jack Leon & Piper (Novice),
Jean Danver & Chaps (Elite),
Star & Donna Highstreet (Veteran)

This was the first trial in the Silver Buckle Series. Note that in the Silver Buckle standings some dogs have "0" for the YPS average.  That is because YPS is calculated using regular runs only.  If a dog has no Qs in Regular but does in Jumpers and/or Gamble they will have a Q count but no tie breaker value.  The category of your Silver Buckle category is the level of the dogs 1st regular Q.     Please report any errors to the web master.
