2012 Agility Events

PASA held four agility trials in 2012:
February 25/26: VIPAWZ, San Martin, CA
March 31/April 1: Stanislaus County Fair Grounds, Turlock, CA
August 4/57 : Manzanita Park, Prunedale,  CA
November 4 : Nationals Pre-Trial, Bakersfield, CA

November 4

This was the last trial of the 2012 season.  It was a big event held as a Pre-Trial for the ASCA Nationals at Bakersfield, CA in the Kern County Fair Grounds.   This trial was a three ring event, all three running at the same time.  Dave Connet did a great job setting up rotation groups so everything went smoothly and agility conflicts were minimal.  It was a little on the hot side, but generally perfect weather and we managed to get the last run in just before lights were needed.  That was no small feat, since it was the first day of standard time.  We had three wonderful judges.  Susan Graham was our Regular judge.  Sandra Katzen was our Gamblers judge and Richard Pittman was our Jumpers judge.  Maralize Howze did a great job of lining up full time workers which really cut down on delays and errors.

PASA really put on a class act for this trial.  Our check-in gift was worth the entry.  The workers all got fed and watered.  The judges had a good time.  The awards were really special.

Trial committee members were:
Chair: Jean Danver
Awards: Warene Waters/Mona Nichols/Jo Delvey (day of)
Secretary: Dave Connet
Chief Course Builders: Dave Grubel/Scott Lovelis/Craig Randal
Chief Ring Stewards: Maralise Howze (in charge of all workers)/Liza Buckner/Jenny Hutchinson
Judge Hospitality: Maggie Guthrie

Check in gifts: Mona Nichols

Being a Nationals venue, it seemed that lots of competitors were there just about to earn an ATCH and six of them did it at our trial.  They are all pictured below:

  Vickie McNulty and ATCH Kaylie

Sue Grigsby & ATCH-V Splash

Linda Heaton & ATCH-IV Breeze

Claudia Yearsley and ATCH-II Rookie

Lou Brannick and ATCH Becca

Wendy Cerilli and ATCH-II Pico

We gave out five High in Trial Awards.  Congratulations to all our High in Trial Winners.  The competition was pretty tough with a number of dogs getting all six Qs in their class.

August 4/5

This was the third trial of the 2012 season.  Because our last trial is a Nationals Pre-trial, this was the last trial in the Silver Buckle series.  This trial was also notable for some unusual events.

The trial was held at Manzanita Park in Prunedale, CA.  True to form most of the trial was held in mist and high fog.  We even had a little far off thunder on Saturday.  The sun finally came out for Sunday afternoon. Keith Van Housen was our judge.  He comes from the Albany, NY area, so we gave him some cool weather to enjoy.

Trial committee members were:
Chair: Jean Danver
Grounds: Maggie Guthrie
Awards: Warene Waters
Secretary: Dave Connet
Chief Course Builder: Susan Laursen/Maralise Howze
Chief Ring Steward: Maralise Howze/Mona Nichols
Hospitality: Mona Nichols
Chief Scorekeeper: Marcia Hodes
Equipment Transportation: Jody Ruble

The trial had five classes each day and "NQ" raffles on Saturday and Sunday.

Erica Maurer and Trek earned his ATCH-II on Saturday.  Janet Jenkins and Maggie also earned an ATCH-II on Sunday.

The Silver Buckle Competition ended up being very exciting.  Two levels, Junior Handler and Open went down to the wire.  When the trial was over, two Open dogs had the exact same score in Q points and the exact same time in the tie breaker.  We have never had a tie before.  And it was hard to believe that the tied dogs would have the exact same average regular time over the three trials to the 100th of a second.  But that was what happened.  The tie breaker failed.  So, here are the results:

Junior Handler: Rosie Canfield and her Aussie, Walter
Veteran:
Corine Stewart and her Aussie, Marley
Elite: Janet Jenkins and her Aussie, Maggie
Open: Hugh Vincent and his lab, Zack & Valerie Wicklund and her Dutch Shepherd, Casey

2012 August & Final Silver Buckle Standings

Note that all dogs with a Q are listed.   Their group may change if  they do not yet have regular Q.  There may be differences in HIT winners because the rules of which class a dog is in differs and how yps is calculated differs.  For Silver Buckle, dogs are in the group that corresponds to their first regular Q of the year and yps is the average of their regular runs only.  HIT group  is last regular entered of the trial and yps also includes jumpers.

March 31/April 1

This was the first trial of the 2012 season.  After having no rain almost all season the rain decided to come in late March and April.  So, there was some dogging raindrops and a wind storm that took out two of our canopies.

PASA held a one ring event, as usual for the Stanislaus Fairgrounds.    It was held in conjunction with Delta ASC.  They held conformation, rally and obedience.  A number of the agility exhibitors were in conformation, so they had a busy weekend. Sandra Katzen was our judge.  She always does a great trial, challenging with some fun thrown in.

February 25/26

This was the first trial of the 2012 season and we pretty much had a full trial.  The weather really fooled us.  Setting up on Friday it was balmy and in the 70s.   We had a couple of vendors and a photographer at this event.  Some of you many not have been aware of that.  To see Trista's pictures follow the link www.dynamicdogphotos.com.

PASA held a two ring one ring event, as usual.    Susan Perry was our judge.  She definitely contributed to everyone having a good time.  His courses were challenging and a lot of fun.  Everyone pitched in to help break down the regular ring before moving to Jumpers for the final 3 runs of the day.  We finished the trial & had everything loaded on the trailer by about 6pm.
